I don't think any country or political party has a monopoly on incompetent politicians...

In 1999, veteran Alabama attorney L.S. Vines wrapped up his 34-year law career with a bang, winning a five-year class action suit that netted him $18.5 million in 1999 and $17 million in 2000. After retiring in early 2000, Vine became a trader. In a monument to poor timing however, he got in just as tech stocks crashed. He incurred $25 million in losses in his first four months, at which point he ceased trading.
