Shares of women's clothing and accessories retailer Coldwater Creek Inc. rose after the company's fiscal first-quarter profit surpassed analyst expectations.
Sandpoint, Idaho-based Coldwater Creek said its profit grew four percent, and sales jumped 31 percent as demand for spring clothing was high.
Lehman Brothers analyst Jeff Black raised his price target for the stock to $27 from $19, suggesting the stock could rise almost 30 percent over the next year.
Black noted Coldwater has implemented several "creative initiatives," including a new store layout and improved Web site and catalog presentations.
"Better gross margin should help offset the impact of higher marketing spending as Coldwater Creek tries to capture more customers in a tough retail environment," Black said.
Shares gained $2.32, or 11.1 percent, to $23.22. The stock closed at $20.90 Tuesday.
