Interesting article on sentiment from Mark Hulbert at Marketwatch:

http://www.marketwat.....216BE1816CA5}

ANNANDALE, Va. (MarketWatch) -- Was Tuesday's big drop in the stock market a shot across the bow, a harbinger of a much bigger decline in the days and weeks ahead?

Probably not, according to contrarian analysis. Investment advisers are not exhibiting the stubbornly-held bullishness that typically is seen at major market tops.
Consider the latest readings from the Hulbert Stock Newsletter Sentiment Index (HSNSI), which reflects the average recommended equity exposure among a subset of short-term stock market timing newsletters tracked by the Hulbert Financial Digest. As of Tuesday night, the HSNSI stood at 53.1%.
Believe it or not, that's more than six percentage points below where the HSNSI stood a month ago, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average was some 300 points lower than where it stands today. This means that, while the stock market was rising by around 2-1/2%, the average short-term stock market timer was becoming more pessimistic about the stock market.

That's not what is often seen at market tops. Then the typical pattern is just the reverse, with average recommended exposure growing in the wake of any decline.

We've got enough for a correction, though. Still, I think. Mark
