50 years ago, Tulsa celebrated it's 50th year as a city.
I saw them bury this new car at the courthouse that day.
Today they are bringing it up.
It's been sitting in water! DUH!
Good thing they wrapped the engine in aluminum foil... <_<

suppose it drove the "restless ribbon"? Tulsa natives only joke.

hey, RD, we are having a cool old car show in a neighboring valley in a few weeks at the Spud drive in...see Spuddrivein.com for info.

I owned a 57 belveder 4 dr ht......in 58.......it turned to rust and disintegrated in 4 years.........all 57 chrysler products had terrible rust problems

http://www.cars-dire...story/chrysler/

With the inauguration of the second generation Forward Look cars for 1957, Torshion-Aire was introduced. This was not air suspension, but an indirect-acting-torsion-spring suspension system which drastically reduced unsprung weight and shifted the car's center of gravity downward and rearward, resulting in both a smoother ride and significantly improved handling. However, a rush to production led to quality-control problems (mostly related to body fit and finish resulting in major rust-out issues), and coupled with a national recession, soon the company was once again found itself in recovery mode.

I think I did also. It may have been a 2 door but it was a tank.
It had a dash mounted push button transmission.
I paid $50 for it in 1968.
Sold it for $75 a couple weeks later.
Sadly I had an 8 Track under the seat which I forgot to remove when I sold it.
It was worth more than the car! LOL!

Speaking of car shows, there are some very tempting Shelby's running around Tulsa this week:

Mid-America Ford Performance and Shelby Meet
(June 14-17, 2007) –
Held annually in Tulsa, Okla., this powered-by-Ford convention includes everything from Cobras and Fairlanes to Panteras and GTs. The fun includes drag racing, track time, a swap meet and car show. It all begins at the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills and fans out from there. As an added attraction, many enthusiasts head downtown for the annual Tulsarama, a classic car show too big to miss. (Go to: www.midamericafordmeet.com and www.tulsarama.com)

You have got to tell us the rest of the story after you find out!
In the end we retain from our studies only that which we practically apply.

Boyd Cottington was part of the celebration.
They had hoped to start it up just like it was the next day.
But it was 1/2 a century later.
The car looks like it has been at the bottom of Keystone lake since 1957.
Oh Yeah. Keystone lake was not here in 1957.

Hopefully the gas tank is full so we can get something of value from her.
It was full of DX BORON gasoline @ 24 cents a gallon. Refined right here in Tulsa.

There is also a "time Capsule" in the vault.
My dad worked for Schlitz beer at the time.
There was a case of Schlitz in the trunk.
They were steel cans back then.
I guess steel cans were the "New" thing in 1957.
They are rust now.

OMG! They just found Geraldo Rivera!

The 46 star US Flag has just been found in the Time vault from 1957.
It flew in the early 1900's at Oklahoma's Statehood.

That's great. I remember those stamps.
