Volume is light. That is a very bad sign for bears short term.
As long as volume is light, supporting bids will keep the market from falling and frustate bears into covering. A light volume market can be goosed easily and it will be.
Talk about manipulation is pervasive but it is all fixated on the President's Working Group on Financial Markets or Plunge Protection Team. The possibility that market manipulation could take place outside the realm of an official government organization is is apparantly more than minds can fathom.
Eventually bright people will start to suspect that governments around the world are participating directly in the equities markets, independently of the PPT. Yes, placing supporting bid, U.S. included. Governments, the U.S. included, are driving consumption by creating asset inflation.
The real bear market will begin when investors see all of this and begin to fear the resulting damage to the worlds capital markets.

At that point of Realization some sort of mini-Crash would have occurred (>500 DJI points in one day) and then the real-Crash people have been anticipating in this long bull market will come.
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
Remember this day, men, for it will be yours for all time.
