In that list of "things to do on the planet before you die".... add going to Tanglewood in the Berkshires, sitting outside on a hot summer night while James Taylor sings: You can run but you cannot hide This is widely known And what you plan to do with your foolish pride When you're all by yourself alone Once you tell somebody the way that you feel You can feel it beginning to ease I think it's true what they say about the squeaky wheel Always getting the grease. Better to shower the people you love with love Show them the way that you feel Things are gonna be just fine if you only will Shower the people you love with love..... Doesnt get much better than that.... Until he sings.... Winter spring summer or fall all you have to do is call and I'll be there yeah yeah yeah. You've got a friend. and then: Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone Susanne the plans they made put an end to you I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song I just can't remember who to send it to I've seen fire and I've seen rain I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend But I always thought that I'd see you, one more time again.... ahhh Never give up, never slow down Never grow old, never ever die young The secret of life... is to enjoy the moments we have... mm

1973 -Santa Monica Civic Center -capacity 3000 - James came out with a folding chair, and a can of beer -he popped open the beer , unfolded the chair , and asked "What would you like to hear?"
Good luck is with the man who doesn't include it in his plan.

You're showing your age Doc.
You've aged well. ;)

The Urban Legend about "Susanne" and the "Flying Machine in pieces on the ground" is not what most people think.

James Taylor's father was a doctor, maineman. Ike Taylor was Dean of the Medical School at the University of North Carolina. Now that James is bald, he's starting to look a lot like his old man did.

He seemed particularly at ease on Saturday. He has strong connections to the Berkshires, is rasing his 2 younger children there and his wife is invoved with the Boston Symphony (which spends the summer at Tanglewood). He was funny and relexed and told many stories about the origin of his songs. Sweet Baby James, he said, was the name of his new nephew and on the way to visiti him for the first time he thought he shoiuld write him a baby's lullaby with an old cowboy feel to it.... Line em up, he said, was from an image he had of Nixon lining up the White House staff in two rows to shield him and shake their hands as walked to the helicopter after giving his "farewell" speech after getting the boot. You've got a friend had many funny stories, especially when he showed a picture of him and Joni Mitchell from almost 40 years ago, looking very scraggly and skinny. He commented that's what people used to look like due to lack of access to mirrors. He said, "I guess today you would say she was my b*tch", about Joni Mitchell, which was hilarious and so out of place.. He talked about how he was strumming You've got friend after hearing Carole King sing it (she wrote it) and she said he ought to record it. He was deeply moved and appreciative but then gritted his teeth and said, "Little did I know I'd have to sing it every darn day for the rest of my life..." still he sang it beautifully - as always - mm
