CHICAGO - August 17, 2007

The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) announced that a new daily trading volume record was set on Thursday, August 16, 2007 when 23,745,650 contracts were traded, 11 percent higher than the previous record of 21,313,025 contracts set on July 26, 2007.

Equity options trading set a new record with 20,238,343 contracts, a 7 percent increase over the previous record of 18,946,472 contracts on July 26, 2007. O pen interest peaked at 309,214,202 contracts, also claiming a new record.

Thursday's volume marks the third record trading day in the past four weeks, a period that has seen eight of the 10 highest trading volume days. Average daily trading volume in August now stands at 15.6 million contracts, more than double the average daily volume of 6.9 million contracts in August 2006.

Another first at OCC was achieved Thursday when more than 1 million options transactions were processed.
