Fairfax Financial Holdings is emerging from a decade of underperformance,
with all of its insurance subsidiaries now underwriting profitable business,
while its runoff operations are becoming less of a drain on the organization. At
the same time, Fairfax was early to detect the emerging problems in the U.S.
subprime market and positioned its portfolio to benefit from a downturn.
