Below find a chart of US total debt by sector by quarter for recent years. For the last few years, total US private debt has been rising fairly consistently, until Q3 when it started contracting slightly. The largest contributor to this decline was the domestic financial sector, the decrease of which at -854B was larger than the increase in federal debt. Does anyone know why the big decline in this sector?

I look at that web-site whenever I am feeling too macho! It brings me down to earth faster than a shot of Fireball whiskey.
