APPLE CANCELS ELECTRIC CAR...

The two executives told staffers that the project will begin winding down and that many employees on the car team — known as the Special Projects Group, or SPG — will be shifted to the artificial intelligence division under executive John Giannandrea. Those employees will focus on generative AI projects, an increasingly key priority for the company.

Met with DOJ officials to avoid antitrust lawsuit...

Antitrust enforcers, who have been probing the company since 2019, allege that Apple has imposed software and hardware limitations on its iPhones and iPads to impede rivals from effectively competing. The suit is expected in the coming weeks, likely by the end of March, the people said.

Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The Justice Department declined to comment.

PAPER: American revolt against green energy has begun...

windmill-burns.jpg

Simply put, these huge industrial sites – we simply must stop using the friendly-sounding term “farms” to describe them – create all manner of negative consequences for local communities. Consequences like loud noise from wind turbines, hundreds of dead birds and bats sprinkled across the countryside, thousands of acres of productive farm or ranchlands taken out of production for many years if not permanently, spoiled views, enormous “graveyards” filled with 150-foot blades and solar panels popping up all over the place, and impacts to local wind and weather patterns that are only now beginning to be understood.

Those consequences and more have become increasingly clear as time has progressed, and that is making it harder for developers to gain acceptance from the communities that would serve as hosts.

Electric cars release MORE toxic emissions than gas-powered vehicles and are worse for the environment, resurfaced study warns

Electric vehicles may release more pollution than gas-powered vehicles, according to a report that has recently resurfaced.

The study, which was published in 2022 but has begun circulating again after being cited in a WSJ op-ed,  found that brakes and tires release 1,850 times more particulate matter compared to modern tailpipes which have filters that reduce emissions.

It found that EVs are 30 percent heavier on average than gas-powered vehicles, which causes the brakes and tire treads to wear out faster than standard cars and releases tiny, often toxic particles into the atmosphere.

I was very interested in EVs back in the early 1980's when Mother Earth News printed plans to make your own!

"offering articles and ideas on gardening, homesteading, sustainability, farming, and more. Learn how to build a wind generator, tan a rabbit hide, make paper from plants"

But pie in the sky dreams are not Reality!

Sky-High Depreciation And Massive Repair Bills Force Hertz To Sell 30,000 EVs

The result has been a loss of $392 million in the first quarter, despite a 2% growth in revenues over the same period in 2023 amid overall revenues of $2.1 billion.

Hertz initially planned to sell 20,000 electric models from its fleet, however an additional $195 million charge last quarter as a result of depreciation across its fleet left it with no choice but to sell even more electric cars.

The 30,000 Hertz is now selling are the latest black spot in its experiment with EVs, which some reports estimate have cost the American rental giant as much as $440 million.

"GOT EV?"   I get a "CHARGE" out of tonight's news:

Texas power outage map: Severe storms leave nearly 800,000 homes, businesses without power. "Could last weeks"

In neighboring Louisiana  more than 215,000 customers without power.
