Actually, Windows XP is running very nice for me and there really is no reason for upgrading, unless you like graphic eye candy or have OS10 envy.
I use an NVidia MB with a built in hardware firewall. Avast for AV, AVG and A-Squared for spyware (All free). I didn't like Windows Defender when I tried it and from what I read, it's not that good.
After the first service pack is issued, I'll take another look at it...actually, I am considering buying a MAC
oops forgot this freebie CCleaner keeps your PC's fresh

That's where I am.Actually, Windows XP is running very nice for me and there really is no reason for upgrading...

I am very slow to change anything as long as it does what I need.
I have had some very bad experiences with windows patches and upgrades.
And no telling how many of my software programs would not be compatable with Vista.
So why bother?
I do love the MAC vs MS commercials.
I think they are VERY EFFECTIVE at building an even bigger premium brand.
MAC is cool. MS is nerdy.
Maybe a MSFT short and an AAPL long would be a good longer term bet.

I wasn't happy to have to buy Vista right out of the gate, but I needed a new laptop.
After some misery, I nearly reformated the hard drive and ordered XP again. That would have cost me a lot, but I would have had some pretty darned good functionality on this machine.
I hung in there and did some updates and got used to it. I think I can say that I'm beginning to like it. I'm also willing to say, wait as long as you can. It'll only get better and it's not quite ready for prime time, yet. Neat graphics though.

I think it is important to realize that Mark and others on this board buying Vista right now are savy customers with some resources to deal with vista problems.
What happens when Grandma gets her new Vista enabled computer home? Or worse someone like me!
People like me will just choose to go to the apple store where they have people who explain things to you in very simple terms and your computer just works when you get it home.

At the very least I am certain we went to different schools together!
As I remember, we were very close back then.
