If this was just outright shorting and not hedging you'd think you'd see it in the Rydex data. I'm not. I'm thinking that this is hedging, or, perhaps just selling? What's the premium to NAV? Mark

At 3:30 long QID is up .50%, whereas short QLD is up .34%. I guess it costs to pile on.

Mike, There was a discussion of this the other day. Net change "on the day" isn't what tells you about "premium". You need to see deviation from NAV. Frankly, we ought to find some way to program this and stream it on Traders-talk. Talk about valuable... Mark

Well, statistics can be VERY misleading... QLD - 3M shares outstanding ... Today's implication BEARISH UPTHRUST QID- 25M shares outstanding.....Today's implication BULLISH SPRIING See Daily Chart... over the highs on vapor on QLD... under the lows on vapor on QID.

We're in uncharted territory using these as indicators. They're not quite like anything else. If stocks take off, QID eventually goes to zero, for example. Then, they come up with a new QID.

I don't think you can buy QLD until this relationship changes... Look it was a day early(2/26) too... :)

What's the premium to NAV?

As of the close on 3/14 QID was at a discount of -0.57%. Will have to look tonight to see today's Premium/(Discount). Here's the link. Proshares website shows the same info.

As of 03/14/2007
Closing NAV: $55.83 Current Distribution Rate: 1.02% Closing Share Price: $55.51 Premium/(Discount): -0.57%

UUP & UDN are bullish and bearish etfs on the dollar. Inverse to each other. At the close they are both down! -6 cents and -3 cents. Very new and thinly traded. I think the volume affects the bid/ask on these thinly traded. q's trade in the 100's of millions, the etf's qid/qld trade in the low millions.
