Gasoline prices are well above highs made back when oil was over $70 barrel. Oil now only $65. As we hit $ 4.00/gallon this year, I believe we will see a major retrenchment. Pirces have jumped 40% in just a few months. This isn't getting the press it did last time around. XOM had another great quarter. And they didn't even blame it on retail gas. We haven't even hit the summer driving season. Fortunately my gas, etc are paid by my company. Now if I can only get my spouse to conserve, we will be ok. The gas prices are more pyschological than anything. Happy driving out there ! :D

Good thing is that it's not counted for inflation by the Fed.

For me an extra $1/gal is roughly $300 a year (gotta love urban living!). That won't cover my monthly wine bill. But I feel sorry for the poor folks who have to commute 40 minutes each way. Those in the SUV's, however, can suck it up. Mark

at one point it was touted that a $300 tax cut would jump start the economy  ! i work out of the house but i still drive 14k miles a year. my wife has a short commute but she also drives about 14k miles a year.

plus i suspect we pay much more for gasoline than you.

because of the gas price we decided not to have kids and i almost quit drinking.

almost  .

I like that idea. Buy less gas and more wine. Mark, I gotta hand it to you, you sure know how to live...
