An Amazing chart indeed! It says it's got data from the future, for the Dow futures up to 3:00 PM Central time today, to plot. Why or, more interestingly, how? That's a question that, perhaps, only the people bringing you the future data right now can answer. Yahoo? Are they showing you YESTERDAY'S YM data instead of today's?

I suspect that the problem results from trying to plot the index ... which will be done with real time data ... with an overlay of futures data .... which would use data delayed by some minutes. From the one link you provided, it appears that the YM futures data are delayed 10 minutes from the cash index data. Anyway, only the data/chart supplier knows the True Answer to this puzzle! :) Lee

Yesterday, brokers chart showed ym13175 intraday low while their data feed showed 13110. what a electronic mess? Because futures trade essentially 24 hours a day, you should be careful in interpreting what you see in charts and data listings for futures. For example, sometimes the 'low of the day' MAY be shown as the lowest for the WHOLE 24 hour period ....... but for other presentations the 'low of the day' may be just the low for the regular hours trading period (6:30 am Eastern to 4:15 pm Eastern) and these numbers are very often not the same. One other thing, for Dow futures the 'fair value' is currently in the 45 - 50 point range. So you should expect that the YM price will be 45 - 50 points higher than the cash. Your original charts in this thread did not fit very well with this so it was obvious, to me at least, that you were not looking at what you thought you were on your charts. Again, the data provider should be able to sort this out for you. If they can't, use a different data provider!! Lee

lee, "YM price will be 45 - 50 points higher than the cash." Does Ym ever trade at discount to cash index?

lee,

"YM price will be 45 - 50 points higher than the cash."

Does Ym ever trade at discount to cash index?

Ym may trade below the cash index but that would most definitely put YM below the trigger point at which the arbitragers would initiate sell programs ... programs to sell stock and buy futures which, of course, would increase the futures price until it got back above the trigger point for sell programs. Conversely if YM increases above the fair value it will eventually hit the trigger for BUY programs and the arbitragers will buy stock and sell the futures until balance is restored once again near fair value for the futures contract.
