Brokerage accounts usually have $500,000 depository insurance.

What are you saying that they don't have to pay it all or can take their time?
Time varies with some firms but you can/could wait a year or more to START getting payout and not a lump sum.
Note also that FDIC will drag pyments out, per the fine print.
Your money is only as good as the Firm you are dealing with, at that point in time.
