We've seen higher volatility before, much bigger swings point wise in 2000-2002, and of course on crash days. But looking at a 15 min chart for yesterday and today reveals for the last 45 min of Thurs and first 15 min of Friday:

607.79 indu points,

126.93 nasdaq points,

72.5 SPX points,

all in 1 hour of trading!

All of that in the last hour of trading into options expiration! I'd like to sincerely pray and hope that no one on this board or our family and friends got hurt badly with that.In these days of leverage, one could get seriously hurt, especially if writing way out of the money calls yesterday afternoon.

I was thinking the same thing today. I remember a day or two like this before. They both came on opex. Once I was short SPY and SPX was down like 50 points. I thought it was the end of the world and I was on top of it! Within an hour it recovered and closed up... Just like Thursday. <_< Memories.
