What a relief that guns don't kill people.

I'm not remotely interested. Crazy people do crazy things, meanwhile guns save millions from crimes and harm. That's a good thing and a fundamental human right.

Good one OEX.

What western country comes close to the USA homicide rate?

No one.

Those poor Japanese only kill 1/15th as many.

If only they could carry weapons think how many lives they could save.

Talk about blind stupidity.

Yep, its a fundamental right to have a gun handy when you get angry with someone or something.

Even back in your wild west days, most towns disarmed the "cowboys" when they entered town.

Why was that?

Surely it would have been better to give a gun to everyone who didn't have one.

They say there are none so blind as those who will not see.

What part of 'objective human right' don't you get? The FACTS show more guns actually make us safer. It's drug laws and other factors that drive crime, not guns.

More concealed carry, less crime.

I note that none of the victims were carrying, were they?

Huh! Funny coincidence. Victims tend to be unarmed.

A simple solution would be to make crime illegal.

Historically the 18 through 24 age group is the highest crime-committing group. At age 18 part-time drug dealers leave school and become full-time drug dealers. Despite the propaganda from the gun control lobby, criminals in general and drug dealers in particular are the group of so-called children most likely to be shot by their fellow criminals.

There were 29,846 accidental deaths by poisoning in 2007, 41,256 auto related deaths.

If guns kill, cars kill twice as often.

Shouldn't automobiles be banned?
They kill twice as many people per 100,000 population as guns do.
Shouldn't alcohol be banned too? It kills more people than guns.
And when it comes to killing people, homicide by means other than guns comes in at #108, right behind guns at #107.

Deaths: Leading Causes
http://www.cdc.gov/n...9/nvsr59_08.pdf
This report presents data on the 10 leading causes of death in the United States:
#1 Salmonella infections
#13 Measles
#16 Malaria (Good thing we banned DDT!)
#80 Alcoholic liver disease
#96 Motor vehicle accidents (13 per 100,000, Twice as many deaths as homicide by firearms 5.5 per 100,000)
#103 Accidental poisoning
#107 Assault (homicide) by discharge of firearms
#108 Assault (homicide) by other and unspecified means
#109 Legal intervention

So if guns kill, they seem to mostly kill criminals.
But cars kill twice as many, often innocent victims.

You have converted me to the idea of everyone having weapons. So not only should Iran have nukes but every nation should have them and the more the better. If every nation had nukes the world would be a safer place. What was I thinking! Yeh, there will be a few crazy nations that fire away but we can all fire back. So why is Israel worried about Iran? I mean Israel has hundreds of nukes and Iran hasn't even got one yet.

Has any amongst us NEVER had a RAGE moment? Maybe it was road rage, a domestic dispute, an altercation after too many drinks. Perhaps someone abused or even verbally threatened you. If you had a weapon handy, would you use it. I probably would have at some time. Perhaps the rest of you are more controlled. If you have a weapon at home locked away as required and ammunition seperate etc, it is basically useless if invaded as you would never have time to get it together. If it is more accessible, how will you feel when your children or grandkids get it and kill themselves or another child. How will you feel when a depressed family member uses an available weapon to end their lives. I would rather lose my life than think that my insistence on weaponry was instrumental in the death of a family member. I have been a victim of home invasion with guns and I have had a family members shoot themselves and I have had a friend kill himself with a gun. Yes, all these things can be done without guns but it is more successful with guns.

Roger

Seriously.

Did you know that 100% of people are killed by being born? We all die.

I would not advocate termination of all pregnancies.

So your nonsense about motor vehicle accidents is as silly.

Life is dangerous and many die because we are fragile beings that suffer in the course of "normal" essential activities.

We work on infectious diseases and food health and safety etc.

When it comes to weaponry, we go the other way.

I could probably accept a rifle in every home.

But an assault weapon, or a flame thrower or maybe a grenade launcher or a cluster bomb or a nuclear weapon.

Surely there has to be a reasonable limit.

In some states you have people wearing guns on their hips into a McDonalds and they can't be stopped.

Is that what you want?

If it was me, I'd be out of that place in a flash.

How would you know if the one with the big iron on his hip was a "show-off" or about to kill as many in the building as he could.

Crazy people and criminals will always pose a danger, but especially to the unarmed public.

Nobody, including the victim, had a gun to stop this attack:
VIDEO: Mob Beats, Strips & Robs UNARMED Tourist As Onlookers Laugh in Baltimore...
The video shows a man being punched in the face in Downtown Baltimore.
You can hear his head hit the pavement.
Instead of helping, people laugh.
Then, the crowd strips him naked and takes his car keys, watch, money and iPhone.
"Oh my G0D, Where are the police?" asked one unarmed bystander.

I would also suggest people look into pepper spray also because there's a vast area between the time to talk and the time to shoot. Let's not forget Reginald Denny and the LA riots. A little pepper spray might have saved him a lot of pain. I can still see that video in my mind. It would probably also help if you are the target of a flash mob.

Why do I have a gun? A policeman is to heavy to carry.

When seconds count. The police are minutes away.

Yes better to kill a Trayvon Martin.

Stand your ground.

In fact, gain your ground.

Give me ONE example when someone having a weapon saved the day.
