I heard about this last week and just had to get one.
For $40 you get this little USB device which you plug your phone or phone system into.
I ordered it Thursday or Friday and it was in the mail today.
It has no software to download, you just plug it into your computer and if you are online you can call free.
So far your phone number will be assigned to one of 36 cities you choose across the country.
Later, supposedly around Christmas, you can select a different number.

Setup was unbelievably easy. It took about 10 minutes, mostly spent reading the "terms of use".
After 1 year (if they are still in business), I'll have to pay $19 for another year of phone service, including, long distance, voice mail, caller I.D. etc.
My first call was to my grandson (who lives about 15 miles away). The call was crystal clear but he was freaked out cause his caller I.D. showed I was calling from Las Vegas' 702 area code! He said, "I thought you weren't leaving for Vegas till Friday."
I could take the thing to his house and then make a "local call' to him in Tulsa while I'm in Vegas. LOL!

It will not be long until these are on your computer's motherboard. Or so it seems to me.

They ask for your address at registration for 911 purposes. If you move it to another address, you are supposed to update the address location for 911. I used my wireless home phone to dial but there is also a screen keypad which shows numbers called, etc. You can setup contacts and an address book on screen.
