1/11/20 John Maudlin - The global debt surpassed $255 trillion by 2019 year end. A 4.8% increase for the calendar year. Govt WILL raise taxes. For the moment, it is sustainable because the economy is growing. Each recovery phase is smaller than the last. Eventually they will stop being recoveries at all until we “rationalize” the aggregate debt. That’s economist-speak for default/monetization/restructuring or whatever term you want to use.

Until that happens, the word “recovery” will be meaningless. We can’t repay debt without growth. We’ll have to liquidate it in some fashion. Inflation is the historically tried-and-true method. Right now central banks are struggling to generate the kind of inflation that would do this. Maybe they’ll figure it out, but I think default is the more likely outcome. However, it won’t be the kind of default any of us have ever seen before, or even imagined. I expect it to happen in the late 2020s.

Gold OI has gone nuts. The pundits say the extreme commercial position is the kiss of death to gold bulls. I think to the contrary, the hedgies gonna put the commercials feet to the fire as rising prices force them to buy back their short position. Time will tell.

Yeah that is a sound article. Things WILL correct. only question is do we run first and then really get hit

One scenario would be 1700 area or so then come back to 1500

Open interest is the total number of (open) contracts, matches of buyers and sellers.

A high figure indicates money flowing into the gold market.
